Google Apps for Education
School District 126 utilizes Google Apps for Education for students and staff. This permission
form will offer you the chance to provide your consent for your child to utilize the Google Apps
services as well as explain the Google services that District 126 uses to support student learning.
District 126 actively monitors all student activity within our Google domain, and we endure that
our use of Google complies with both the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)
and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). There is no presence of advertising
with District 126's Google Apps Domain, and no personal student inforamtion is collected for
commerical purposes.
PRIMARY GOOGLE SERVICES
MAIL - an individual email account for students in grades 3 through 8 for school use managed
by District 126. All student email is restricted to send and receive email only from users within
District 126, and all incoming and outgoing student email is actively monitored by the email
monitoring service, Gaggle.
CALENDAR - an individual calendar providing the ability to organize schedules, daily activities,
and assignments.
DOCS - a word processing, spreadsheet, drawing, and presentation toolset that is very similiar
to Microsoft Office which allows students to collaborate with other students and teachers.
DRIVE - secure cloud storage and file backup for your photos, videos, files.
Using these tools, students collaboratively create, edit, and share files for school related
projects and communicate via email with other students and teachers. These services
are entirely online and available 24/7 from any Internet-connected computer. Examples
of student use include showcasing class projects, building electronic portfolio of school
learning experiences, and working in small groups on presentations to share with others.
All student use of Google Apps for Education must follow the District's established
Acceptable Use Policy, which is available on our website at District 126 AUP.
