District 126 Outstanding Teachers!

District 126 would like to congratulate two of our amazing teachers who have been recently recognized for their outstanding work in the field of education!

Kristy Regan, 6th grade teacher at Hazelgreen Elementary School, has been awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.  Kristy was selected out of hundreds of nominations across the country.  The Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching program, administered by the National Science Foundation on behalf of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, recognizes outstanding teachers for their contributions to the teaching and learning of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and computer science. Mrs. Regan traveled to Washington DC to receive her special award where she participated in professional development activities, met with panelists discussing the 5 year strategic national plan for STEM education, toured the White House, and was honored at a special awards ceremony.

Jo Maietta, 6th grade teacher at Stony Creek Elementary School, has been awarded the Symetra Heroes in the Classroom Award.  Symetra Heroes in the Classroom is a community program that recognizes 16 Chicago area teachers for outstanding leadership and instructional skills during the Chicago Bears football season. These heroes are teachers who make a real difference in the lives of students, who goes above and beyond the day-to-day responsibilities as an educator, and who helps students to build life skills. An all school assembly was held to surprise Mrs. Maietta with this award
