Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to PJH Physical Education! Follow us on Twitter @PrairiePE

Our physical education program is fitness based and consists of individual and team sports with the emphasis on sportsmanship, physical fitness, and lifetime skills. Students are encouraged to participate in all activities to the best of their ability. We teach the 4 B’s at PJH which are BE HERE, BE DRESSED, BE ACTIVE and BE NICE! Students at PJH have P.E. for 44 minutes each day, 5 days a week.

Students will be wearing POLAR heart rate monitors throughout the year to ensure we get the most out of our workouts to benefit our cardiovascular endurance. While wearing the heart rate monitors students must meet the minimum of 20 minutes in their target heart rate zone.

In addition to our big and small gyms, PJH has a fitness center that is designed to meet the needs of the jr. high students in their physical education classes. Our main emphasis will be on physical fitness, and lifetime skills. Students will be able to use the equipment as part of the curriculum to improve their cardiovascular and strength. The fitness center has stationary bikes, ellipticals, treadmills, rowing machines and over 10 resistance stations for strength training to develop the upper and lower body. All the equipment in the fitness center is user friendly, regardless of a students’ initial fitness level.

The goal is to continue to give students the best possible program by increasing the students' awareness, knowledge, and participation in fitness and sports activities. Students also have a P.E. handbook that covers our team and individual sports as well as different health units we will discuss throughout the year.

Let’s work together to see our students grow physically, cognitively and socially through Physical Education!
