Robin Biesen First grade teacher

My name is Robin Biesen and I teach first grade. I began my teaching career at Hazelgreen School in 2006. First grade is a very exciting year! There is nothing more rewarding than to watch a student sound out a word and then smile with pride as they realize what they just did! Not to mention the first time they sit in the "Author's Chair" to read their first story! It is so very important for your child to read every day. It is my expectation that along with the nightly phonics and math homework, your child should be reading a least 15 minutes every day! Don't forget to read to your child. It is important for them to hear what a "fluent" reader sounds like. It's ok to read to them! There is nothing better than to cuddle up with a good book after a long day! What a great gift you are giving your child. Research shows how important first grade is. The type of reader your child is at the end of first grade sets the tone for how they will continue to read for the rest of their life! Let's work together to give them a very strong start!
